Interpretation:
During the month of November, I attended Hoban’s play “The Nerd”, which was presented by Hoban’s Theater Production. The play was a two-act comedy written by American playwright Larry Shue. It presented the life of a man named Willum, an architect, who was trying to take advantage of his life, and make it big in the business. While off-and-on again with his girlfriend Tansy, Willum received an unexpected visit from the man who saved his life in Vietnam, Rick. Promised by Willum, Rick showed up when in need for help just as Willum insisted.
Throughout the play, Willum rapidly became annoyed with Rick and his inappropriate behavior and awkward manners. Rick later decided to move in with Willum and from that time problems came about. Anxious to rid of Rick, Axel, a dear friend of Willum, devised a plan to help rid Willum of his new addition to his life.
The play “The Nerd” was very well produced and presented to the audience. It was very comical and the humor kept you interested in the play. It made me look at my own future and think about what it will be like when I get older. The play helped me to look for what I want from life and what I want to get out of it. It used comical scenes to emphasize the struggles life can have but how easily they can be changed.
Judgment:
I was very impressed with the cast and crew of “The Nerd”. It was very well produced and helped me to understand different struggles in life and how to deal with them and how to not deal with them. The production was very different yet interesting, but I really enjoyed the comedy that was presented throughout. I would recommend this play to others because it gives you a wonderful combination of comedy, and life itself.
